They're 'Driven to Discover' on video (1/23/2012)
Two CFANS students, Ryan Goltz and Michael Garlinghouse, are among 16 winners of the University of Minnesota's student video contest. Students were asked to make a short video explaining how they are "Driven to Discover;" winners were selected through online voting. Goltz's video (left) placed fifth; he'll receive a $2,500 scholarship. Garlinghouse's video placed 12th; he won a $1,000 scholarship.

The University of Minnesota's annual Legislative Briefing provides advocates for the University of Minnesota with a preview of the U’s legislative agenda while preparing them to advocate for the university with their legislators. This year's briefing, led by new U of M president Eric Kaler, will be at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, in McNamara Alumni Center and includes a light dinner. Please pre-register by Jan. 24.

'Freeze Frame: Capturing Nature in Winter' begins at the Bell (1/3/2012)
A new collaborative effort between the public and Bell Museum of Natural History has begun accepting images from photographers that, as the name suggests, capture nature in winter. Artist-in-Residence Areca Roe will use the submitted photos as her medium, creating an ever-evolving installation celebrating the season. The project began accepting submissions in late December and the first phase of the installation will open at the Bell on Jan. 21, with continued expansion throughout the winter and spring.
