Campuses:
Cold-hardy fruits? Pest-resistant crops? Cancer-preventing vegetables? Which 10 plants have had the greatest impact on how we live today? The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum wants to know. Nominations are being taken through April 15 for "10 Plants that Changed Minnesota: Growing Solutions to How the World Lives Today," a new initiative to build awareness of the crucial role plants play in nourishing and sustaining life on Earth. The program is being spearheaded by Mary Meyer, a professor in the Department of Horticultural Science.
Assistant professor Jason Hill of the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering has been chosen as one of six new University of Minnesota McKnight Land-Grant professors. The program is aimed at advancing the careers of promising junior faculty at a critical point in their professional lives. Recipients hold the title for two years and receive a research grant in each of those years and a research leave in the second year.
