NASA, Interior Department recognize Marv Bauer's contributions (11/22/2010)
Department of Forest Resources professor Marv Bauer is the 2010 winner of the William T. Pecora Award, in recognition of his pioneering work in remote sensing of natural resources. The award is presented by NASA and the U.S. Department of the Interior.
CFANS students will observe international climate talks (11/22/2010)
Sixteen University of Minnesota students will participate as official observers at the UN Climate Change Conference negotiations in Cancun, Mexico, where leaders from around the world will work toward long-term cooperative action to address climate change. The students will attend the first week of the two-week negotiations, from Nov. 29 through Dec. 4 and will be blogging about their observations via the university's Institute on the Environment.
Ron Phillips honored with agronomy society award (11/9/2010)
Regents professor emeritus Ron Phillips was honored at the recent Crop Science Society of America annual conference with its Presidential Award. The award is given to "persons who have influenced the science or practice of crop production so greatly that the impact of their efforts will be enduring on future science." Phillips retired in 2010 after 42 years in the Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics and earned many other high honors during his career, including the Wolf Foundation Prize in Agriculture in 2007 and the Siehl Prize in 2010.
