University winter closure begins Dec. 24 (12/15/2010)
University of Minnesota services and business offices, including those at CFANS, will be closed from Dec. 24–Jan. 2. The Bell Museum also will be closed, but the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum will remain open. The closure is designed to save money by turning the heat down in most buildings and reducing payroll costs during a time when the university's activities are already reduced.
Spring arrives early in seed catalog show at the Arboretum (12/15/2010)
Seed and nursery catalogs have long used beautiful images to entice customers, and a new exhibit, "Seed Stories: Catalogs of Life and Gardens in America," at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum puts those images on display. Dozens of covers and letters from Andersen Horticultural Library's rich collection of 57,000 catalogs are a testament to their research value as well as their beauty. Stories of local characters, including three Minneapolis seedswomen, regional pioneers, and colonial innovators give a more intimate look at the life and gardens surrounding these publications. The exhibit opens Jan. 7 and runs through April 3 at the arboretum.

Set your holiday table with products from the Department of Animal Science Meat Laboratory Salesroom. The salesroom offers a wide array of steaks, turkeys raised at UMore Park in Rosemount, roasts, stuffed pork chops, rack of lamb, sausages & bratwurst, veal, bacon, gyro meat, and more. You can even pick up some recipe ideas.
The Forestry Club sells Christmas trees, wreaths, swags, garland and homemade maple syrup in the parking lot of the Les Bolstad golf course between noon - 9 pm on weekdays and from 8 am - 9 pm on weekends.
Give a membership to the CFANS Alumni Society. All graduates, students and friends of the college are eligible, and it provides a great way for individuals to get involved, stay connected, and contribute to CFANS initiatives, scholarships, and events.
The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum stays beautiful all year long! Gift memberships are available for gardeners, walkers and anyone who enjoys nature.
