In a first step toward engineering a drug-free cannabis plant for hemp fiber and oil, University of Minnesota researchers have identified genes producing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive substance in marijuana. George Weiblen, a professor in the Department of Plant Biology, explains.

Alumnus earns highest 'U' honor (10/05/2009)
Department of Applied Economics alumnus Harry Kaiser will receive the University of Minnesota's Outstanding Achievement Award, the highest non-degree honor granted by the university. Kaiser, a 1985 Ph.D. graduate, will receive the award on Thursday, Oct. 8.
